Nepalese Passenger Railway

7th and 8th September 2007

The only railway in Nepal (closed in 2014) operated from Janakpur, Nepal a short way across the Indian border to Jaynagar. The total length of the route was 29 km and was built to 762 mm gauge. On the day I visited, due to heavy rainfall and flooding the train from Janakpur traveled just 5 km before terminating from where everyone crossed the river by foot and continued on another train to Jaynagar.
